On February 6, 2021 I finished the 12 Weeks of the “Running Your Butt Off” program. It’s a small victory worth a celebration. It makes me feel great. I liked this new habit. Planning to keep it consistent for the rest of the year; to run 30 mins non-stop on Sunday, Saturday, Tuesday, and Thursday 💪🏻
Some learnings from the past 12 weeks of running:
-
To start, you can just do it. Overcomplicate things (i.e premature scaling) will get you nowhere. Solve future problems later.
-
Some days are hard. There are times when I don’t feel like running at all. The motivation simply isn’t there. What did I do? I walk outside. Simply pushing my butt to move to start the ball rolling.
-
Usually, we normalize this waterfall thinking:
- wait for inspiration
- get motivated
- do the action
When I think some more, it might actually be a cycle of Inspiration - motivation - action - inspiration - ad infinitum. To keep the momentum on, you CAN start anywhere (doesn’t have to start from inspiration.
-
A small action can trigger inspiration (go outside)
-
Set a small goal. Celebrate small wins. This is the golden age of scale. But most things (usually what’s important to our life) don’t need to scale.
-
Your mind getting tired faster than your body. When I feel like giving up in the middle of the run, I didn’t visualize the finish line, instead, I visualize HOW FAR I HAVE RUN. The mind can only be beaten by the mind; I would say to my self “One more step”
-
Consistency is a mind game between you and yourself. And it’s a zero-sum game. it’s an endurance game
